Züllig Smart Sensors:
COSMOS Turbidity & Suspended Solids Measurement for
municipal and industrial wastewater monitoring
COSMOS®-25 - Special characteristics
• Broad measuring range from low-level turbidity to viscous solids
• Scratch-proof sapphire windows
• Very high accuracy
• High stability by extensive compensation of interferences
• Built for constant use in a temp. up to 194 °F (90 °C)
• Withstands also short excursions up to 203 °F (95 °C)
• Sensor can be total immersed in the NaOH (sodium hydroxide)
• Connection cable made of Teflon
Example of application
The internationally patented measuring instrument COSMOS®-25 is used e.g. in the alumina production. Success under toughest conditions and is especially adapted for measuring in caustic liquids (NaOH). As well as improving our customers’ final product quality and reducing production costs, it’s extremely large measuring range and extremely precise readings guarantees that only one model of probe is required for all your different applications.
The COSMOS®-25 is used in the Clarification and Precipitation Process.
- Clarification
The alumina-bearing solution is separated from the insoluble impurities that were part of the original bauxite.
• Precipitation
The alumina is precipitated or crystallized form the solution as crystals of alumina trihydrate. The solution is mixed in tall vessels with recycled seed crystals. When completed the solid alumina hydrate is passed on to the next stage and the remaining liquor, which contains caustic soda and some alumina, goes back to the digesters.
Additional Applications
The highly sophisticated instrument requires only a simple calibration and is easily put into service. An extraordinary measuring quality is guaranteed at all times. Due the shape of the sensor face (no cams or slots) the COSMOS®-25 sensor can be used in open channels and basins as well as in pipelines. It has been designed for use in WWTP’s, Drinking Water Plants, Chemicals Plants and various Industrial Plants.
